About Us

In 1971, Bruce Roberts graduated from college as a marketing major and Marsha Roberts graduated from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan in design. That year, with $800 and paying $75 a month for rent, they opened a handcraft store called Collage. Marsha and Bruce handcrafted leather goods, jewelry and sold handmade candles and pottery.

In 1972, Marsha and Bruce drove to Mexico, purchasing sterling silver jewelry and handcrafts (tinware, pottery and baskets) to broaden their product line. A friend of theirs opened a gallery in Tysons, New Jersey and purchased the products acquired on Bruce and Marsha’s trip to Mexico. From that point forward, Collage grew to become a wholesale company, showing at the New York International Gift Fair and the Boston Gift Show. From 1972 to 1985, Collage was a major importer of Mexico, selling to over 500 independent stores, including Bloomingdales, Jordan Marsh and Macy’s.

In 1985, Bruce and Marsha introduced a sterling silver line that they designed and manufactured in Thailand, Bali and India. Specializing in nature-themed jewelry, Collage sold to various national park stores, Disney, Monterey Aquarium, Baltimore Aquarium, Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo and over 1,000 independent retailers.

In 1995, using different mediums of materials including copper, brass, wood and shell, they introduced a completely new line of handcrafted fashion jewelry. They manufactured, in-house, using an array of patina pieces and its diversity of color to create a variety of earrings and pins. Being able to incorporate the manufacturing in India, the Philippines and China, Bruce and Marsha were able to use their craft and natural materials. For each season, Collage created over 500 new designs to encompass the fashion and styles of the day. At that point, Collage was showing in all the major wholesale trade shows in the United States, including the New York International Gift Fair, Atlanta Gift Show, Chicago Gift Show, Boston Gift Show, LA Gift Show, San Francisco Gift Show and to over 60 sales representatives throughout the United States. Colláge’s trade show booth presentation won “Best in Show” at the Chicago, New York and Atlanta conventions. At this time, Bruce and Marsha designed private label items for Coldwater Creek, Chicos, Rainforest Café, Butterfly World, Kirklands, Disney Word, Callaway Gardens and 2,500 additional retailers in Europe, Canada, Mexico, Japan, the Caribbean Islands and Russia.

Colláge opened its outlet retail store in Sugar Loaf, New York in 2013, offering crafted items from around the world. In 2014, the store moved to a larger location to enable its customers a greater selection of jewelry, gifts and décor – manufactured both in-house and from points all over the world.
